Kosta Glassworks - The Kingdom of Glass

Welcome to Kosta Glassworks! Beloved glass artists such as Ulrika Hydman-Vallien, Bertil Vallien, and Kjell Engman have made Kosta a place that many people feel a connection to. Kosta Glasbruk is Sweden’s oldest operating glassworks; its furnaces have been in operation here since 1742. Since then, the glassblowers have mastered the molten glass and refined their craft from generation to generation.

As a visitor, you can witness the spectacle of the manual work carried out in the smelting house. However, you might find yourself staying here for a long time—it’s a fascinating sight. You can also take the opportunity to try it out for yourself.

Across the courtyard lies the Kosta Art Gallery, designed by another of the Kingdom of Glass’s greats—architect Bruno Mathsson. Here you can see contemporary art glass by Kosta Boda’s artists. The area is also home to the Kosta Outlet, which offers 20,000 square meters of shopping space featuring brand-name clothing, shoes, books, sporting goods, home furnishings, and more. You’ll stay at the spectacular Kosta Boda Art Hotel, with its popular spa and high-class restaurants.

Near the glassworks, you'll find Kosta Bad and Camping, and a little further away is Kosta Lodge, which features a safari park, cabins, a restaurant, and wilderness adventures.

Welcome to the warmth of the cabin

The glassworks is open to visitors every day of the week as part of its “Open Glassworks” program. A visit to the glassworks gives you the opportunity to see the skilled artisans “in action,” feel the heat from the furnaces, and marvel at the journey of the molten glass from a liquid mass to a beautiful glass product. (Note: The artisans take breaks from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and from 1:50 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.)
