Nybro Stora Hotellet offers accommodations, conference facilities, and food and beverages in two elegant restaurants. The hotel is located in the heart of Småland’s “Glasriket” region, close to Växjö, Kalmar, and Öland.
The hotel’s overarching theme is classic Art Deco style, a style that dominated the 1920s and 1930s. As for the interior design of the hotel rooms, this style is reflected in the period-appropriate wallpaper. The rooms are further furnished with high-quality solid oak furniture. As a guest, you’ll sleep in Swedish-made beds, and the desks and nightstands are handcrafted by a local carpenter from Småland—in solid oak, of course. Collaboration with nearby and locally produced food suppliers is important here, but the hotel also works with companies in Nybro and the surrounding area when it comes to interior design.
The restaurant serves well-prepared dishes made largely with local and regionally sourced ingredients. The daily lunch special is served Monday through Friday, featuring well-prepared home-style cooking; see the menu on the website. Fresh bread and pastries are baked daily. In the evenings, enjoy a meal from the à la carte menu.
In the City Hall Hall on the first floor, you’ll find Gunnar Theander’s most famous work, the fresco. The painting depicts Nybro’s history, from a town of artisans to an industrial city. It features Nybro’s famous buildings and figures from the past. The fresco is signed by Gunnar Theander in 1968 and was unveiled on April 11, 1969.
Open to visitors on Fridays from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
