Visit Mobergstenen! The soldier’s cottage where Moberg grew up no longer exists. It was torn down in 1924. Moberg’s parents had seven children, and only a few of them lived to adulthood. Stories tell of how poor they were in that soldier’s cottage. The children had to stay indoors in the winter because they didn’t have any proper shoes. In the summer, they were allowed to be outside without shoes until fall, when the frost set in. The outhouse was a hole in the woods. What a journey Moberg took during his lifetime! It was in 1970 that the parishioners erected the stone. It sits beautifully on a small hill. Be sure to visit it and soak up the atmosphere!
