Orrefors - the mill that put Swedish glass on the world map - Glasriket

Lecture on Orrefors glassworks with Gunnel Holmér, glass historian.

Orrefors gave Swedish glass world fame during the 20th century. The success was made possible by a far-sighted company management and bold artists in close collaboration with glassblowers, engravers, grinders and other skilled craftsmen. The international breakthrough came at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1925 with unique pieces of art designed by Simon Gate and Edward Hald. The successes continued not least during the second half of the 20th century through artists such as Nils Landberg and Sven Palmqvist.

The lecture sheds light on the glass factory's more than a century of activity. This is followed by a viewing of the exhibition "The Boys at Orrefors - Nils Landberg and Sven Palmqvist" in Orrefors Museum. The speaker is Gunnel Holmér, glass historian and former glass antiquarian at Kulturparken Småland in Växjö.
