Hyttsill - Kingdom of Glass

Today's cabin herring builds on the tradition of gathering at the ovens at the end of the day to warm up and eat. Both those who worked at the glass factory and passing tramps took the opportunity to eat and entertain each other with jokes and music.

Today the cabin herring is a beloved feature of the glassworks tours and something that should not be missed if you want to experience the Kingdom of Glass for real. The menu is basically unchanged since the "old days" and then, as now, it offers robust and Småland food: salted herring, crispy pork, lard strips and baked potatoes. Of course, the meal ends with cheesecake.

Just like in the past, entertainment is an important feature of the cabin herring, and in addition to music, glass shows are offered in front of the ovens.

Today you can eat cabin herring in Kosta, Målerås and in Bergdalahyttan for pre-booked groups. In Bergdala, Hyttsillen is arranged in collaboration with Hönsalotta's Hoof Museum). In summer, you can book this on a number of predetermined dates. Visit the respective operator's website for more information and booking.
